IUEC Local 49, headquartered in Jacksonville, FL, was founded on June 28, 1919. Some of the most notable projects that our members have worked on are the Jaguar Stadium, completed with KONE equipment and home to 28 escalators and 12 elevators, and the Bank of America Tower, a 42-storey building housing Otis equipment and a total of 18 elevators.

Since our humble beginnings in 1902…

We have grown to more than 360 members with over 190 retirees.

The Local’s jurisdiction has expanded out from its roots in Baltimore City to include 18 of Maryland’s 23 counties along with Sussex County Delaware and sharing Kent County Delaware with Local 5. If you follow the Mason-Dixon line from the Appalachian Mountains in western Maryland down to the Atlantic beaches of Rehoboth and Ocean City, you will find our members working and living.

From the steps of the state capital in Annapolis up to the top of the Chesapeake Bay, Local #Local 49 members continue to carry on our union elevator constructor heritage well into the 21st century.

The National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP) provides Local 49 members with the best apprenticeship program, safety training, and continuing education (CE) options in the industry to make sure Local 49 members continue to drive industry-leading standards.
